The Gilded Margin

There are some weeks when my Favorites Friday list makes absolutely no sense as a collection of things.

This is one of those weeks.

I have hockey, romantasy books and a Netflix adaptation sitting on the same radar. Honestly, that feels pretty on brand.

Joel Kiviranta is back with the Dallas Stars

Dallas Stars fans know Joel Kiviranta.

He spent the first four seasons of his NHL career in Dallas before moving on to Colorado. Now he’s back after three seasons with the Avalanche, signing a one-year deal with the Stars.

This isn’t the kind of move that changes the entire direction of a franchise. It doesn’t need to be.

Sometimes a roster move is interesting simply because a familiar player comes back to an organization where he already has history.

For me, though, the bigger Stars story is still what happens with the team’s future in North Texas.

The proposed arena and entertainment district is a much larger piece of the puzzle than any single offseason signing. The Stars’ future home and the development surrounding it could have a pretty significant impact on the region, so that’s something I’ll continue watching.

Kiviranta is the smaller story.

The future of the Stars in North Texas is the bigger one.

Sarah J. Maas just added two more books to the calendar

If you read A Court of Thorns and Roses, you already know that announcing another book doesn’t exactly make a quiet reading year.

Sarah J. Maas has two more ACOTAR books on the calendar:

A Court of Splintered Harmony — October 27, 2026

A Court of Forgotten Melody — January 12, 2027

The books are part of the continuing story sometimes referred to as the Valkyrie Cycle.

And this is where I start laughing about my own reading budget.

Because there is always something else to read.

Then Sarah J. Maas announces two more books.

Then somehow the TBR pile grows again.

I’m not complaining, though.

For readers who have followed this series for years, having actual dates to put on the calendar is a lot more exciting than another round of speculation about what might be coming.

So, yes, I’m adding them to the list.

And yes, I’m already thinking about what else I’m going to want to read between October and January.

I’m still watching Quicksilver

The other thing sitting on my radar is Quicksilver, Callie Hart’s romantasy novel that Netflix acquired for adaptation.

This is one of those projects where I am interested, but I’m not going to pretend something happened when it didn’t.

The adaptation has momentum. There has been work on the screenplay, and the project has been moving toward finding a director.

But I haven’t seen a major new casting announcement, production start or release date that changes the story right now.

So this one stays in the watch pile.

And honestly, I think that’s worth saying.

There is so much entertainment news online that it can be difficult to tell the difference between an actual development and someone reposting an old rumor with a new headline.

Sometimes the update is simply: nothing major has changed yet.

I’m okay with that.

I’ll keep watching.

So what’s on my radar?

This week’s list is a little random, but that’s part of the fun.

The Dallas Stars have a familiar face coming back.

The ACOTAR universe has two more books coming.

And Quicksilver is still somewhere in that interesting space between “this could be really good” and “let’s see what actually happens.”

That’s probably why I like Favorites Friday.

It doesn’t have to be a perfectly curated list of five things that all fit together.

Sometimes it’s just the things that caught my attention this week.

And apparently, this week, my attention belongs to hockey, romantasy and book adaptations.

I’m not mad about it.
